Barry Gene Murphy is an award winning filmmaker and artist with over 15 years experience in commercial animation, 3D and special fx and more recently Mixed Reality. Graduating in 2004 from the Royal College of Art, Barry has created visuals for Block9, Nike, Sky, Samsung, as well as experimental performances for the English National Opera and Carlos Acosta. Barry has lectured in Animation at the Plymouth College of Art and his short film Two Wheels Good following the story of cyclists who remembered the world before cars has won a series of international awards, including Best New Director at Cork Film Festival. Barry has made music videos for bands including White Lies and Childish Gambino. Barry’s first foray into VR was in early 2013 as visual designer on Proteus, an interactive textual experience of James Joyce’s Ulysses. Most recently Barry conceived and creatively directed the exciting app Make Noise in collaboration with Anagram and the BBC. This premiered at the Venice Biennale’s VR Island in 2018 and was nominated for the Future of Storytelling Bridging the Divide Award. He also worked further with Anagram helping to visualise their most recent daring installation experience, The Collider which has received acclaim after premiering at IDFA in 2018
