Nawapol Thamrongrattanarit graduated from Chulalongkorn University majoring in Chinese language. While still a student, he taught himself to make short films and to date has made more than twenty, the most notable ones being Bangkok Tanks (2006), Francais (2009), and Cherie is Korean-Thai (2010). His films started traveling to film festivals and he was invited to attend the Berlin Talent Campus in 2007. His debut feature 36, which he wrote, directed, produced, and distributed with a budget of 7,000 dollars, won the New Currents and FIPRESCI Awards at the 2012 Busan Film Festival. Apart from his own films, he is also in demand as a professional screenwriter. He wrote Bangkok Traffic Love Story, which became the biggest box office hit of 2009. Finally, Nawapol works as a film writer for various publications and runs Third Class Citizen, a film and video activist group.
