Lucas Joaquin produced the feature films LOVE IS STRANGE (dir. Ira Sachs) which premiered at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival and at the 2014 Berlinale and will be distributed in North America by Sony Pictures Classics; and THE HEART MACHINE (dir. Zachary Wigon) starring John Gallagher Jr. and Kate Lyn Sheil which premiered in competition at the 2014 South by Southwest Film Festival and will be distributed in North America by Film Buff.
He also produced KEEP THE LIGHTS ON (dir. Ira Sachs), and the second unit shoot for the feature BEASTS OF THE SOUTHERN WILD (dir. Benh Zeitlin), both of which premiered in the US Dramatic Competition at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival. LIGHTS went on to screen at the 2012 Berlinale where it won the Teddy Award for Best LGBT Narrative Feature, and received four nominations for the 2013 Independent Spirit Awards, including for Best Picture. BEASTS went on to win the Grand Jury Prize for Best Narrative Feature at Sundance, the Camera D’Or for Best First Feature at the Cannes Film Festival, and was nominated for four Academy Awards including Best Picture.
In 2013 Joaquin produced video artist Jesper Just’s 5-channel video piece INTERCOURSES, the Danish submission to the 2013 Venice Biennale; and Ira Sachs’s short film LAST ADDRESS which screened at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival and Berlinale, and is now included in the permanent collections at the Museum of Modern Art and Whitney Museum of American Art in New York City.
Upcoming projects include BRIGHT AS DAY directed by Ron Eyal and Eleanor Burke, and WHEN I LIVE MY LIFE OVER AGAIN directed by Robert Edwards and starring Christopher Walken and Amber Heard.
Joaquin participated in the 2012 Sundance Producers Lab and the 2013 Berlinale Talent Campus with the film BRIGHT AS DAY.
