Biennale College Cinema: the 12 projects of the new edition 2023-24

During the 80th Venice International Film Festival, 12 projects have been selected for the 12th edition of Biennale College – Cinema 2023/24; their teams (composed of a director and a producer) will participate in the first 10-day workshop which will be held in October 2023. Nine projects were selected from the Biennale College Cinema – International competition, whereas another three came from the Biennale College Cinema – Italy competition. A total of 184 projects participated. Biennale College – Cinema is an advanced training laboratory open to filmmakers from all over the world for the production of low-budget films. Launched at the 2012 Venice Film Festival, Biennale College Cinema has produced 37 feature films so far.

 

The 12 projects selected for this first phase of Biennale College Cinema are:

BUIO / DOGS DAYS OF SUMMER (Italy) – director: Camilla Carè; producer: Berardo Carboni (1st feature)

HONEYMOON (Ukraine) – director: Zhanna Ozirna; producer: Dmytro Sukhanov (1st feature)

JANUARY 2 (Hungary) – director: Zsófia Szilágyi; producer: Dóra Csernátony (2nd feature)

JAYSAN (Kyrgyzstan) – director: Aisha Sultanbekova; producer: Saltanat Imankulova (1st feature)

MY BIRTHDAY / IL MIO COMPLEANNO (Italy) - director: Christian Filippi; producer: Leonardo Baraldi (1st feature)

SHAME, SHAME, SHAME (Italy) - director: Eli Zuzovsky; producer: Tom Sidi (1st feature)

THE FISHERMAN (USA/Ghana)director: Zoey Martinson; producer: Kofi Owusu Afriyie (1st feature)

After the workshop which will be held on October, four of these twelve projects (including one from the Italy section and at least two by female directors) will be selected to receive support from the Biennale to cover production costs, which cannot exceed 200,000 Euros, and will be presented at the 81st Venice Film Festival in 2024.

 

On September 4 the new Call for the 8th edition (2023/24) of Biennale College Cinema – Immersive (BCC-I) will be launched to select 12 VR projects presented by teams of director and producer, coming from all over the world and at least two from Italy. Biennale College Cinema – Immersive will organize an International workshop, taking place in January 2024 in Venice (from January 12th to 18th; arrival on January 11, departure on January 19).

 

Biennale College – Cinema, conducted by the Biennale di Venezia, has the support of the Ministry for Cultural Heritage and Activities – Directorate General for Cinema. The main sponsor is Vivendi; Biennale College – Cinema receives academic collaboration from Gotham Film & Media Institute and TorinoFilmLab.
