“How did you meet?”

Posted by Edmund Yeo

“I met my producer Woo Ming Jin back in 2007 when I was a fresh grad. Despite our age differences, we hit it off immediately probably because of our similar backgrounds (being of Chinese descent in Malaysia, having studied abroad, interest in English literature etc.) He was looking for a creative collaborator who could help him deal with the post-production and the local theatrical release of the film that he directed, “The Elephant and the Sea” (2007), so I was more than eager to volunteer because I was in need of a mentor.

Since then, under the company Greenlight Pictures, my collaboration with Ming Jin has lasted until now. I have also helped to produce, co-write and edit Ming Jin’s subsequent films “Woman on Fire Looks for Water” (2009), “The Tiger Factory” (2010) and the upcoming “The Second Life of the Thief”. Meanwhile, he has served as producer for a number of my short films, like Love Suicides (2009), Inhalation (2010) and Last Fragments of Winter (2011)

Aside from that, both of us have worked together on a number of local Malaysian TV content, either as co-directors, or alternating between the roles of director and producer. So after six years of collaboration, we are very used to working together as a team”.
