André Marques (b. 1984) is a Portuguese writer/director/producer. He works in fiction, experimental, documentaries and advertising.
“Luminita”, his Luso-Romanian co-production starting Dragos Bucur, has won seven awards which includes the AUDIENCE AWARD at the 21st Curtas Vila do Conde Film Festival, the SPECIAL JURY PRIZE & BEST SCRIPT AWARD at the 52nd International Film Festival Cinema de Gijón (Spain), the GRAND PRIX at the 20th Drama International Short Film Festival (Greece), and the Portuguese Cinema Academy’s Sophia Award 2014 for the Best Portuguese Short Fiction. It was also released commercially in Portugal in 2014 with distribution by Paulo Branco’s Medeia Filmes (Lisboa, Oporto, Setúbal, Coimbra, Braga, Figueira da Foz and Évora).
His previous trilogy of short films called “Kids” included the multi-award-winning “João e o Cão” (in competition at the Berlin International Film Festival), “O Lago” (Fantasporto IFF) and “Schogetten”.
In 2014 he made a music video for Gareth Dickson (“Cara”, in competition at MUVI Lisbon), “O Avô” (Grandpa) a one minute short film that received three awards at the largest festival of its kind, Filminute, and wrote the film project “The Drunk” that was selected for the Biennale College Cinema 2014.
