Marina Meliande was born in 1980 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Marina is both a Director editor and producer. She graduated in Film Studies at University Federal Fluminense (Brazil) and had a MFA at Le Fresnoy – Studio des Arts Contemporains, France.

 

In 2006, with other brazilian fillmakers, she created the independent company production DUAS MARIOLA FILMES and became one of the names of the Brazilian new wave of cinema. She directed the awarded short films “Waterbound” and “His Name (the clown)”, screened at more than 40 international film festivals, between them Oberhausen Film Festival and Pusan Film Festival.

 

With Felipe Bragança, already at the DUAS MARIOLA FILMES structure, she created the Coração no Fogo Trilogy in 2008, directing, editing and co‐producing two features: A Alegria/ The Joy (Director`s Fortnight Cannes 2010, Rotterdam 2011) and A Fuga da Mulher Gorila / The Scape of the Monkey Woman (Fillm-makers of the Present, in Locarno 2009), and coordinating and directing the collective effort Desassossego (Filme das Maravilhas) / Neverquiet (Rotterdam 2011).

 

At le Fresnoy Marina has made two video installations: Letters To The Old World and After Image. As an editor she worked on more than 40 films including “Swirl” and “Found Memories”, both selected to Bienalle – Venice Film Festival 2011, at Orizzonti and Venice Days sections.

 

In 2012, while developing her next projects, Marina Meliande has been invited for a 2 weeks residence in Cal Arts (California Institute of Fine Arts) as a Visiting Artist to present his works and give an exclusive film‐directing workshop. She was also selected to be one of the supported filmmakers at Cannes Film Festival Residence, Cinefondation, to develop her next feature film, Mormaço.
