Sifiso Khanyile is a Johannesburg based award winning filmmaker, archive researcher, and record collector.
Sifiso has produced 9 films, writing and directing 4 of those including the award winning ‘Uprize’, and ‘A New Country’. Khanyile recently completed ‘The Prophetess’, a short film adaptation of Njabulo Ndebele’s short story with the same name. Khanyile’s work concern’s itself with memory and history as an active agent in shaping contemporary narratives in South Africa. Khanyile has also directed, produced and music videos.
As archive researcher, Khanyile has worked on numerous documentary and art projects and presented at archive symposiums such as the Visionary Archives Festival at the Arsenal in Berlin.
His most recent contributions can be seen/heard in Kudzanai Chiurai’s exhibition The Library of Things we Forgot to Remember, Future Nostalgia’s sonic lecture series for the National Arts Festival, 2020, and the Sowetan 40 X Netflix Collaboration, where archive was used to blur distinction between the art of storytelling and narration of history and its effects on subjects.
