Vanya Rainova is a writer and producer whose short films and documentaries have been nominated for EFA and won awards at Clermont-Ferrand, ZINEBI, Brest, Brive, Krakow, Bulgarian Film Academy and many others.
She supports emerging talent and established filmmakers in the development, production and distribution of their author-driven films. She is about to premiere award-winning documentary filmmaker Andrey Paounov’s first fiction feature, January (2021, BG/PT/LUX), and is in post-production with Venci Kostov’s feature debut, Liuben (2021 ES/BG, 2021 Connecting Cottbus Works in Progress Selection, 2021).
She holds an MFA in creative writing from The University of San Francisco and a BA in journalism from Ithaca College. She’s a graduate of Eurodoc (2015), EAVE (2016) and Midpoint Institute (2020).
