Carlotta Piccinini (1979) is an Italian documentary flmmaker, author and video artist since 2008.
She has always worked in a transversal way, moving from creative documentary, video art,
interactive art up to her recent experiences in the feld of fction. She directed documentaries,
experimental movies, fction movie, music video, social advertising and commercials and she
worked for TV documentary productions as author. Since 2010 she’s a member of Elenfant Film,
flm production company based in Bologna, Italy.
Because of her background study in Sociology (2000, Université de Caen, France), Political
Science, with a focus on Human Rights and International relations (2004, University of Bologna,
Italy) and in Public and Social Communication (2007, University of Bologna, Italy) she started to
collaborate with the Italian NGO G.V.C. and the British Oxfam focusing her artistic research in
documentary and social advertising to portray social issues targeting the most vulnerable groups
in society (women, migrants and refugees, ethnic minorities and labours exploitation) in several
countries like Morocco, Tunisia, Haiti, Cambogia and Dominican Republic.
Her recent flmography includes:
“Eco de Femmes”, (2014, 32 mins; documentary) showcased in many national and international festivals winning several awards (Malmo Arab Film Festival 2016, Festival dei Popoli 2017, Euganea Film Festival 2015, Italy -“Banca Etica” Prize);
“El Hijo de Fatima” (2017, 12 mins; fction) is her frst fction flm as director and author. The flm
was part of the 6 episodes Web-series “13.11”. It has been showcased in many festivals world wide among which: Festival Européen du Film Court de Brest 2017, Buenos Aires Web Fest 2018 – Argentina, Festival Internacional de cine y derechos humanos de Valencia 2018 – Spain, The Seoul Guro International Kids Film
Festival 2018 – Korea).
