Giovanna Nicolai muove i primi passi nel mondo del cinema conseguendo un master in Film and Art Management presso La Sapienza Università di Roma. Nel 2006 svolge uno stage presso il Dipartimento Marketing della Warner Bros. Italia. Tra il 2007 e il 2010 lavora per il Festival Internazionale del Cinema di Roma, come Coordinatrice di Produzione presso il Mercato di Coproduzione. Qui impara come gestire un evento internazionale, ricercare progetti e talenti emergenti, gestire le fasi di preselezione, finalizzare partnership, inviti ufficiali, programmi, ecc. Nel 2013 si trasferisce in Canada per lavorare per il Toronto International Film Festival come coordinatrice della programmazione, dove è responsabile di tutte le fasi di produzione dei programmi come TALENT LAB, RISING STARS, PITCH THIS! e RBC Emerging Filmmakers Competition. Nel 2014 si trasferisce nuovamente a Roma dove inizia a lavorare come Coordinatrice di Produzione per la società Cinemaundici, fondata nel 1998 da Ermanno Olmi, Luigi Musini e Roberto Cicutto e ora guidata da Olivia Musini. Giovanna è ora Responsabile della Produzione, guida le operazioni di post-produzione ed è responsabile delle operazioni dei festival cinematografici internazionali.

 

Giovanna Nicolai moves her first steps in film industry by taking a master’s degree in Film and Art Management at La Sapienza Università di Roma. In 2006 she takes an internship in the Marketing Department at Warner Bros. Italia. Between 2007 and 2010 she works for the International Rome Film Festival, as Production Coordinator at the Co-Production Market. Here she learns how to navigate an international event, scout for projects and emerging talents, manage Pre-Selection stages, finalize partnerships, official invitations, meeting schedules, etc. In 2013 she moves to Canada to work for the Toronto International Film Festival as Industry Programming Coordinator, where she is in charge of all production phases for programs such as TALENT LAB, RISING STARS, PITCH THIS!, and RBC Emerging Filmmakers Competition while trouble-shoots all Industry Programming inquiries. In 2014 she then moves back to Rome where she starts working as Production Coordinator for the company Cinemaundici, founded in 1998 by Ermanno Olmi, Luigi Musini and Roberto Cicutto and now led by Olivia Musini. Giovanna is now Head of Production, she is in charge of negotiating contracts, scheduling and budgeting, leads post-production operations and is responsible for international film festival operations.
